Harwich International
On leaving Wrabness, the line curves ontop the deviated route from the original line to Dovercourt, which can be seen on the right hand side. Passing the oil refinery, the track crosses and enters Harwich International Port station. Harwich International Port was built as a rail ferry port in the 1880s by the Great Eastern Railway (GER) and was originally named Parkeston Quay after GER’s Chairman. In 1984 the port was privatised and today it covers 258 acres and has developed into a modern multipurpose port. Harwich ferries can offer a top class bulk container, roll on roll off ferry operations. In 1993 the port entered the cruise sector, operating Baltic & Mediterranean itineraries.
