Just Part of the Service

Again I hear that our adopters have gone the extra mile and helped a member of the public in need.

A couple of evenings ago David and Ann Taylor, adopters at Bures, received a call from an elderly lady wanting to know where she could get hold of the new timetable as the guard on the train did not have any and he had advised her to get one at Marks Tey.

The Lady explained on the phone that she was 85 years old, could not get to Marks Tey and did not have a computer; but needed to get the train to Sudbury and couldn’t make a doctor's appointment without knowing the new times.

David and Ann explained that they had just obtained the new timetables and would drop one through her door.  David said “It's just part of the service”.  It just shows how brilliant our adopters are!

Please keep it up; it makes Community Rail so worth while!

Bonfire night

Essex Eases Bonfire Congestion

The Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership have recently been working in partnership with NXEA and the Thatchers Arms Pub in Mount Bures.

On 5th November the pub held its annual fireworks and bonfire evening, which in previous years had resulted in congestion around the pub with lots of vehicles, causing concern.  The pub agreed to pay for two buses to meet trains from Sudbury, Bures, Chappel & Wakes Colne and Marks Tey.

The CRP provided a Christmas goodies hamper with lots of lovely biscuits and sweets and three bottles of wine donated by the pub.  NXEA provided a first class ticket for four to travel to London and we advertised the event as a chance of winning the prizes if travelling by train or bus to the event, which a total of 128 adults and children did, Mrs Smith, who had travelled from Colchester on the train and bus, won the goodies hamper.

We also gave out colouring sheets for the children travelling on the buses to the event and once they are returned to the pub they will have a chance of winning a £5 book token.  Well done to David & Ann Taylor, Station adopters from Bures who did a lot of the hard work!
