Althorne
Althorne is a small village. Bridgemarsh Marina is close to the station. There is a small community garden in the car park at the station. The land sloping down from the village to the riverside is designated as being of Great Landscape Value.
Bridgemarsh Island is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Stretching for over 3km it was inhabited and farmed until it was flooded in 1928 killing all the livestock and forcing the farmer to move onto the mainland. Nowadays the island is a haven for wildlife and salt marsh flowers. It is owned by the Bridgemarsh Island Trust.
The village is accessed by a steep track from the station. There are 3 pubs which serve the local population. The Black Lion built in 1770 is grade 2 listed.
